Mental Health

So we know that singing can improve your mood and in sequence can make you want to sing even more but what effects can it have on your mental health besides improved mood. 2019 studies show that 4% of the world's population suffer from anxiety disorders; this is not to mention the % of others who experience feelings of anxiety from time to time. Endorphins released from singing can lower stress a key factor of anxiety however the natural art of singing can do most of the work for you, when suffering from anxiety one of the most common pieces of advice is to focus on trying to control your breathing in aim to slow your heart rate and reduce your bodies fight flight and freeze response. Well singing is a great way to control breath, enhancing the use of your diaphragm,sustaining longer notes, and having regular inflow of air. Not only this but singing is a great distraction to take your mind off the panic and focus on the sound, its quality and feeling the benefits from your brain's response. 


There are so many other mental health conditions that i can’t get around to all however Depression is another condition that is benefited by the art and science of singing. We know now that when singing endorphins and dopamine is released, another hormone called serotonin is also released and its job is to increase mood and control how you feel pain. Naturally you can see how these can all work together in improving mood be it only a temporary boost or a longer lasting one the effects that the dopamine has will play a factor in maintaining this.
